Gore reached Srinagar on Wednesday on a two-day visit to Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
Srinagar. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore said the US will review the travel advisory issued for Jammu and Kashmir, as the central government and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have taken steps to make the region more secure. Gore reached Srinagar on Wednesday on a two-day visit to Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. In a joint press conference with Omar, he said that Jammu and Kashmir is an important part of India and a very beautiful place.
Gore said, the US issues travel warnings and we review them from time to time. I cannot make any big announcement here today, but we will definitely consider this issue. He said, we believe that New Delhi, its Chief Minister and its administration have taken some excellent steps to make this area more secure.
“So we will consider whether the US should lower the travel warning level because, as I said earlier, this is a beautiful place,” Gore said. I think many Americans would love to come to Jammu and Kashmir to see its beauty and learn about the opportunities available here.
Immediately after reaching Srinagar, Gore met the Chief Minister at his residence. He said, I am very excited to be here. We just had a great conversation. There are some issues that we hope to raise with Washington and New Delhi. It was a very warm and cordial meeting. We look forward to taking this relationship forward. Gore will visit Ladakh on Thursday. Omar said he discussed relations between New Delhi and Washington with Gore, with a particular focus on Jammu and Kashmir.
“It was a very good meeting,” he said. We had the opportunity to discuss relations between the two countries, with a particular focus on what the United States can do regarding Jammu and Kashmir. Omar said, obviously, there are some old problems, which we will try to solve with time. But we look forward to taking this conversation forward. This conversation will take place between Ambassador Gore and Washington, and between me and the central government here in New Delhi. Omar said he is hopeful that relations between the US and Jammu and Kashmir will become broader and stronger in the coming years.
