Rain and storm warning in 21 states
The states where heavy rain and thunderstorm warning has been issued for August 20 include Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Assam, Meghalaya, Kerala, Karnataka and Telangana.
There is a possibility of lightning along with thunder in many areas. At the same time, due to heavy rains in some areas, there may be a situation of local waterlogging and traffic impact. Weather systems like the low pressure area forming in the north-western part of the Bay of Bengal and active cyclonic circulation in different areas can play an important role in this change in the weather. Cyclonic circulation has also been reported to be active around western Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Heavy rain and storm expected in Delhi
There is a possibility of heavy rain and strong winds in the national capital Delhi on August 20. Here the wind speed can reach about 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. Talking about temperature, the maximum temperature can be around 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum can be around 28 degrees Celsius. In view of the possibility of waterlogging and impact of traffic speed in some parts of Delhi-NCR during rains, people are advised to plan their travel according to the weather.
Bad weather in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar also

There may be rain with strong winds in many areas including Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Mathura, Agra, Aligarh, Jhansi, Banda, Fatehpur, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Azamgarh, Deoria and Gorakhpur. Wind speed is likely to reach 70-75 kilometers per hour at some places.
In Bihar, rain and thunderstorm are expected in many districts including Patna, Gaya, Buxar, Gopalganj, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Saharsa, Supaul, Purnia, Kishanganj, Katihar, Bhagalpur and Begusarai. The speed of strong winds here can reach 60-70 kilometers per hour.
Extra caution in Jharkhand and hill states
There is a warning of heavy rain and strong winds in many districts of Jharkhand on August 20 and 21. Weather may remain bad in many areas including Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Deoghar, Dumka, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh and Khunti. The risk of landslides may increase with rain in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Special vigilance is necessary in areas like Nainital, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Pauri, Rudraprayag and Champawat. Heavy rain and winds are also expected in many districts of Himachal including Mandi, Shimla, Solan, Chamba and Kangra.
Alert in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh also
There is a possibility of rain and strong winds in many areas of Rajasthan including Jaipur, Udaipur, Bharatpur, Karauli, Baran, Jhalawar, Sawai Madhopur, Dholpur, Alwar, Kota and Bikaner. The maximum temperature in Jaipur may be around 34 degrees Celsius. In Madhya Pradesh, many districts including Bhopal, Indore, Vidisha, Sagar, Damoh, Panna, Chhatarpur, Khargone, Khandwa, Narsinghpur and Mandla may experience heavy rain and winds at the speed of 55-60 kilometers per hour.
