A Class III student was reportedly bitten by a snake in the toilet of a private school in South Kolkata, West Bengal. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when a snake about one and a half feet long bit the student in the toilet. The school administration then sent the child to the school sick room for first aid.
However, the family alleged that the student was later sent home. After reaching home, the parents noticed bite marks on the child’s leg and inquired about the injury, which led them to learn about the incident. According to the family, they immediately decided to take the child to the hospital for treatment.
After this, the family immediately took the child to a private hospital near the bypass. The doctors told him that there was no need to worry as the snake was not poisonous. The student has been placed under observation and is currently safe. However, both the school administration and the family are yet to release their official statement on the incident. The student is currently reported to be safe and his health is being monitored.
The family has not filed a police complaint in this matter yet. The family has also not spoken to the media. The condition of the student is currently stable after being treated at the hospital. He is reported to be out of danger. Following the incident, questions are being raised about the school’s handling of snakes found on campus and child bites.
However, it is not yet clear how the 1.5-feet-long snake got into the school’s toilet. Three years ago, a district in West Bengal caused an uproar after snakes, rats and lizards were found in children’s midday meals.
