After its global launch in April 2026, the updated range is now all set to enter the Indian market. This new avatar has seen major changes in design, powertrain, technology and driver assistance system.

Design and cabin features

The front of the sedan features an illuminated kidney grille and crystal-style headlights. The rear also gets a new design of lights. The cabin features BMW's new panoramic iDrive system, operating system 10 and a separate display for the front passenger. A theater screen with 8K resolution is provided for rear seat passengers. Additionally, amenities such as Bowers & Wilkins sound system with Dolby Atmos, four-zone climate control, panoramic glass roof and executive lounge seats are available.

engine and electric powertrain

The petrol version 740i xDrive gets a 3.0-litre mild-hybrid engine, which generates 400 horsepower and 580 Newton meters of torque. The diesel version 740d xDrive has a 3.0-liter engine, which produces 313 horsepower and 670 Newton meters of torque. Both models have an 8-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel drive system. The electric range replaces the old model with a new i7 xDrive50, adding a larger 112.4 kWh battery. This model delivers 455 horsepower. While the power of the top-end i7 M70 xDrive model has been increased to 680 horsepower and torque to 1,100 Newton meters. The new battery is claimed to give the car a range of over 720 km on a single charge.

Driving technology and competition

For safety, it gets BMW's Symbiotic Drive system, which supports automated driving and hands-free assistance up to 130 kmph on the highway. Adaptive two-axle air suspension is provided as standard for a smooth ride. The current BMW 7 Series ex-showroom price in India is around Rs 1.81 crore to Rs 2.50 crore and the price of the new version is likely to increase. In the Indian market, the car will compete directly with luxury cars like Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Mercedes EQS and Audi A8L.
