New Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to participate in several programs in Siliguri on Friday as part of his three-day visit to West Bengal. The day long agenda will focus on awareness about Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), border security and new criminal laws of India.
Amit Shah will visit the SSB Frontier Headquarters in Siliguri on Friday, where he will participate in the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony of various infrastructure projects of the force. During his visit to the headquarters he will also interact with SSB personnel.
As part of his interaction with the soldiers, Home Minister Amit Shah will participate in “Bara Khana” with SSB personnel. Amit Shah will attend a program related to an exhibition based on the three new criminal laws of the country at Kawakhali Ground in Siliguri. The event is scheduled for approximately 2:30 pm and will include an exhibition and public program focused on the new legal framework.
The three new criminal laws are the Indian Penal Code (BNS), the Indian Civil Defense Code (BNSS) and the Indian Evidence Act (BSA), which have come into force on July 1, 2024, replacing the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act. A major aspect of Amit Shah’s three-day visit to Bengal is to review the security arrangements around the strategically important Siliguri Corridor. This narrow corridor, popularly known as the “Chicken Neck”, is important for connectivity between the rest of the country and the northeastern states.
The Home Minister is also expected to chair a border security review meeting on August 22. Amit Shah had reached West Bengal on Thursday evening.
