In the Galle Test, India batted first and recorded 462 runs on the scoreboard. In reply, the Sri Lankan team was able to score 284 runs in the first innings. Team India had a lead of 178 runs and scored 193 runs in the second innings. Sri Lanka had a target of 372 runs. The Indian team all outed them for 206 runs and won by 165 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
