14799 citizens of 92 villages in five districts are still affected by the floods in Assam. After the water level of the rivers normalizing, the life of the flood affected people is also gradually becoming normal. The affected people are struggling to get their housing and farming back on track.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday and gave detailed information about the loss of life and property due to floods in the state and the ongoing relief and rehabilitation campaign.
According to the data of Assam State Disaster Management Authority on August 20, all the rivers are now flowing below the danger mark. So far 106 people have died.
The maximum damage due to floods has occurred in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat districts. 3083 hectares of agricultural land in the state is submerged in water.
At present 238 people are taking shelter in relief camps. 1165 non-camp residents are receiving relief at relief distribution centres. The state government deployed 4 medical teams in the affected areas on Thursday. Government officials are busy assessing the damage.
