The fresh capital infusion comes about 10 months after the startup raised $2 Mn in its seed funding led by WEH Ventures, with participation from Rainmatter, Spiral Ventures, and angel investor Akshayakalpa Organic founder Sashi Kumar.

Founded in 2024 by Harish Varadharajan, Timothy Chad Van Niekerk, and Damian López-Salazar, Fragaria Fruits is a Chennai-based  agritech startup that uses indoor vertical farming to grow premium, pesticide-free strawberries year-round.

The startup operates entirely indoors in high-precision vertical farming systems, where every variable that influences plant growth — light, temperature, humidity, nutrients, and irrigation — is monitored and optimised.

Its flagship product is high-quality European strawberries, sold under its consumer brand Oh! Fruits. The brand claims that these strawberries are twice as sweet as the average Indian strawberry, comparable to finest European produce.

Following a successful pilot farm in Chennai, Fragaria Fruits has been scaling its operations in Bengaluru since its $2 Mn fundraise, targeting a daily output of 120 kg of premium strawberries.

It has been constructing a large-scale commercial farm near Bengaluru and is also developing dedicated facilities for blueberries and raspberries, marking an entry into the broader premium berry category.

The brand is targeting the premium niche in the agritech market at a time when the broader industry is growing strongly.
