Neeraj Chopra second in Lausanne Diamond League, Sri Lanka's Pathiraj tops javelin throw

India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra threw a season’s best of 88.05m, but could only finish second in the Lausanne Diamond League. Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026 gold medalist Rumesh Tharanga Pathiraje of Sri Lanka triumphed once again, topping the list with a throw of 88.14 meters in his third attempt.
At the competition held in Lausanne late on Friday night, all eyes were once again on Neeraj and Pathiraj and saw a tough competition between the two. Pathiraj threw 85.99 meters in his first attempt and 87.06 meters in his second attempt. Neeraj started with 83.54m and beat Pathiraj in the second attempt with a throw of 88.05m, but Pathiraj once again surpassed Neeraj in the second attempt.
Neeraj’s fourth attempt was a foul, while he didn’t even take his fifth throw. However, the reason for his decision is still unclear. Neeraj managed to throw only 82.12 meters in his sixth and final attempt. Andersen Peters of Granada finished third with a throw of 86.71m, his season’s best throw.
