New Delhi, 21 August 2026: India and Brazil have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the telecommunication and information and communication technology (ICT) sector. The Department of Telecommunications had said that this agreement was made during the BRICS ICT meeting. The department noted in a social media post that the agreement will promote digital innovation, strengthen digital infrastructure and accelerate collaboration in the field of emerging technologies. During the 12th BRICS Communications Ministers' meeting held in Pune, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. This agreement was reached between Scindia and Brazilian Communications Minister Frederico de Sequeira Filo.
The Union Minister had said that this agreement will accelerate cooperation between the two countries in areas like universal connectivity, cyber security, digital public infrastructure, emerging technologies, capacity building and exchange of best practices. He noted that this agreement is an important step towards strengthening India-Brazil cooperation for a secure and all-inclusive digital future.
This MoU provides a framework for structured cooperation in the areas of telecommunications, digital infrastructure and emerging technologies. The agreement follows discussions held earlier this year between the ministers of the two countries on strengthening mutual cooperation in telecommunications and digital infrastructure.
The objective of this partnership is to develop an all-inclusive, secure and strong digital ecosystem in both the countries. It will facilitate exchange of knowledge, expertise and best practices. Additionally, it will promote collaboration in research, innovation and development of next generation communication technologies. India and Brazil have also stressed the importance of further strengthening cooperation in international telecommunication and technology forums.
