New Delhi. The name of Bar Council of India (BCI) Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra has been in controversy for the last few days. Now BCI co-chairman and senior advocate Y. R. Sadashiva Reddy has written a letter to Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra demanding his resignation within 15 days. Not only this, Reddy has also made serious allegations against Mishra. In the letter, Reddy has mentioned the transfer of Rs 150 crore of Bar Council funds to a private trust controlled by the chairman and appointing his family members to council posts without any transparent process.

Reddy has also cited the enrollment instructions issued by Manan Mishra for law graduates of NALSAR University. Reddy says that because of that one act the reputation of the Bar Council has suffered a lot. The Bar Council has deviated from its standards. Reddy alleges that the Bar Council of India Trust was deliberately allowed to become inactive. Instead, a new trust named 'BCI Trust PEARL – First' was registered on 17 September 2020 and its trustees were selected by Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra himself. After this, a proposal was brought to transfer an amount of Rs 150 crore from the BCI fund to this trust.

Co-Chairman Reddy said that no member of the Bar Council was shown a copy of that trust deed. Let us tell you that Reddy has raised the demand for the resignation of Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra at a time when just a day earlier Mishra, while answering the questions of journalists, had said that the resignation is a joke. I have not been seated here, I have been elected and appointed to the post of Chairman of the Bar Council of India for the last 12-14 years. I am a representative of 25 lakh lawyers across the country.
