Paradip: A Panama-flagged cargo ship sank in the Bay of Bengal, about 240 nautical miles off the coast of Paradip, Odisha. Officials said the ship had 24 crew members on board and was carrying iron ore from Odisha to Singapore. He said the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy have started rescue operations.
A senior IPS officer said that most of the crew members were Chinese. He told that out of the crew members aboard the ship named ‘MV Ocean Winner’, 20 were Chinese, three were from Myanmar and one was a Bangladeshi citizen. This ship was going to Singapore carrying 72,100 metric tonnes of iron ore fines (fine powder of iron ore) from Odisha.
He told that it had left from Paradip coast at 10.42 pm. He said that other ships nearby have also been alerted to help in the rescue operation. “The Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy have started rescue operations. So far, two people have been rescued from the water,” the official said.
