Tottenham Hotspur’s new-look squad got off to a diasastrous start in the Premier League 2026-27 season as it was battered 3-0 at Brentford on Saturday.
Spurs has invested heavily in its squad after consecutive 17th place finishes in the league, and it opted to hand debuts to summer signings Andy Robertson, Jan-Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, and Marcos Sensei in Saturday’s late kick-off.
It has also been heavily linked to moves for Manchester City duo Savinho and Omar Marmoush.
However, the new faces could do little to disrupt the poor results as Spurs was thrashed by an impressive Brentford bolstered by record signing Mamdou Sangare.
Sangare was involved immediately, cutting the ball back for Keane Lewis-Potter to open the scoring just after the ten-minute mark before Vitaly Janelt doubled the lead by pouncing on a loose ball in the box.

Spurs was missing captain Micky van der Wen and World Cup winner Pedro Porro, and made 20-year-old Archie Gray the youngest captain in its history.
It next faces Charlton Athletic in the EFL Cup on Wednesday before hosting Newcastle United on Saturday.
