New Delhi: A day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's protest at the Parliament Street police station, Delhi Police arrested a man for allegedly writing offensive graffiti targeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the police station wall.
According to Delhi Police, the accused was identified with the help of CCTV footage and a case was registered under the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act. The accused was later granted bail as the sections invoked in the FIR are bailable.
Graffiti Incident During Rahul Gandhi's Protest
The incident took place on August 21, when Rahul Gandhi staged a protest at the Parliament Street Police Station demanding registration of an FIR over the alleged use of pellet guns during a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest on July 20.
The Congress leader had demanded action in connection with injuries suffered by Sahil Lochav, who allegedly sustained pellet injuries during the protest.
Rahul Gandhi Targets Amit Shah Over Delay
During the protest, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the delay in filing the FIR was not due to police officials but because approval was pending from higher authorities, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Home Secretary.
“The case has been registered. It has been a month since he was hit by that bullet. Pellets are still lodged in his body,” Gandhi said, claiming that justice was being delayed due to political pressure.
He alleged that while police officers were ready to register the case, the final approval came from senior officials.
