New Delhi. Will there be 'One Nation, One Election' i.e. elections for all the states along with the Lok Sabha in 2029? The report of Indian Express newspaper is pointing in this direction. According to the report, the Joint Committee of Parliament i.e. JPC formed on One Nation, One Election is taking advice from the CM of every state in this regard. According to the report, earlier it was thought that One Nation, One Election should be conducted in 2034, but it can be implemented only from 2029.

Assembly elections are to be held in 11 states of the country by the year 2029. Whereas, there is NDA government in 22 states. If the Committee on One Nation, One Election submits its report in the winter session of the Parliament and the Modi government makes a bill on it and gets it passed and implemented from 2029, then in the states where elections are to be held before 2029, to conduct them along with the Lok Sabha, President's rule can be imposed by first dissolving the assembly there. However, opposition parties are against One Nation, One Election. He says that doing so is tampering with the federal structure of India.

PM Narendra Modi first talked about One Nation, One Election in the All India Presiding Officers Conference on 26 November 2020. He said that due to frequent elections in the country, a lot of money is spent. By holding elections simultaneously, the work will be done at less expense. Even after this, PM Modi has been continuously giving statements in favor of One Nation, One Election. According to the newspaper report, BJP ruled states have also given their opinion in favor of One Nation, One Election. However, to have One Nation, One Election, the Constitution will have to be amended. For which the Modi government will need two-thirds majority in both the houses of the Parliament. At present the government does not have such numbers in the Lok Sabha. Whereas, in the Rajya Sabha it is close to two-thirds majority.
