Ajit Doval China Visit: Diplomatic efforts regarding the border dispute between India and China are going to be intensified once again. National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval will reach Beijing, China on Monday, where he will participate in Special Representative level talks. Along with border issues, mutual relations between the two countries are also likely to be discussed in this meeting.
There will be talks on reducing LAC tension
Doval’s talks are taking place at a time when India and China are moving forward in the process of reducing tension on the Line of Actual Control (LAC). There was great tension in the relations between the two countries after the violent clash in Galwan Valley in June 2020. After this, both the countries deployed a large number of troops and military resources in eastern Ladakh.
What is the importance of special representative talks?
The Special Representative Mechanism is an important diplomatic forum to resolve the India-China border dispute. Under this arrangement, NSA Ajit Doval from the Indian side and his counterpart from the Chinese side hold talks. Its objective is not only to reduce immediate tension on the border, but also to make efforts towards a long-term political solution to the dispute.
Focus will be on border management and peace
During the meeting, issues like LAC situation, deployment of troops, maintaining peace in border areas and future border management can be discussed. India has consistently maintained that peace and stability on the border is necessary for normalization of relations between the two countries.
Important step towards improving relations
Several rounds of talks have taken place between India and China at the military and diplomatic level in the last few years. The objective of these meetings has been to withdraw troops, disengagement and maintain stability in the border areas. This meeting of Doval and Wang Yi is being considered important for taking forward the dialogue between the two countries and finding a solution to the border dispute.
