Scientific reason behind pink water
At first glance the waters of Lake Hillier seem like magic or a feat of man, but in reality it is an amazing biological process of nature. After long research, scientists have found that there is no artificial reason behind the pink color of this water, but there is a special type of microorganisms and excessive amount of salt present in the lake.
A special algae named 'Dunaliella salina' is found in the water of this lake. This algae, which survives in extremely salty water, produces a pigment called beta-carotene. This beta-carotene also gives vegetables like carrots and tomatoes their red or orange color. Apart from this, salt-loving bacteria called 'Halobacteria' are also present in the lake. When this algae and bacteria come together in a highly saline environment, the lake water appears completely pink when exposed to sunlight.

The biggest specialty of Lake Hillier is that its pink color is not visible only from a distance. Even if you fill the water of this lake in a glass bottle or glass, its color remains pink. Even if the weather changes or sunlight increases or decreases, its color is not affected.
The deep blue Indian Ocean flows right next to the lake. The contrast of this pink lake situated in the middle of lush green forests and the blue sea spread just beyond it looks very beautiful and amazing.
Is it safe to swim in this lake?
Although the amount of salt in the lake is very high, still according to scientists its water is not harmful for human skin. The microorganisms present in it do not cause any harm to humans. However, due to the environment and protection of this natural heritage, it is prohibited for ordinary tourists to enter or swim in it. Tourists mostly view this wonder from a distance through helicopter or boat tours.
Lake Hillier proves that there are countless mysteries and wonders of nature hidden on our earth, which are beyond our imagination. This pink lake is truly a great example of nature's unique workmanship and beauty.
