Six people, including two MLAs, were injured in a horrific road accident on the night of 22 August in Delhi's ITO area. The accident happened near the PWD office at around 9:30 pm, when a Swift car going from Laxmi Nagar towards ITO suddenly crossed the railing after hitting the divider and reached another road and collided with the Innova coming from the front.
Six people including two MLAs were injured in the accident. According to the police, all the injured were taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital for treatment, where their condition is said to be stable. After the accident, the police have taken possession of both the vehicles and started investigating the case.
What did Delhi Police tell?
According to Delhi Police, a PCR call was received at IP Estate police station at around 9:30 pm on August 22 regarding a road accident. As soon as the information was received, the police team reached the spot near the PWD office. Initial investigation revealed that the accident happened near the old police headquarters. After the collision, both the vehicles suffered extensive damage and traffic on the road was also affected.
How did the accident happen?
According to initial police investigation, 32-year-old Ashutosh Pandey was driving a Swift car. He was going from Laxmi Nagar towards ITO with his wife and two minor children. “Near the PWD office, the Swift car hit the divider and after crossing the guardrail, it collided with an Innova coming from ITO towards Lakshmi Nagar,” police said. The collision was so strong that the front part of the Innova was heavily damaged. After the accident, there was chaos on the spot and vehicular movement on the road was also affected.
Who was in the Innova car?
Delhi's Kirari MLA Anil Jha and Karnataka MLA Abhay Patil were present in the Innova at the time of the accident. Both of them suffered injuries in the accident. Police said that all six people involved in the accident suffered minor injuries. All the injured were immediately rushed to LNJP Hospital, where doctors declared their condition stable.
After the accident, the help of fire department was taken to remove the damaged vehicles from the road and to normalize the traffic. Due to the accident, traffic on the road was disrupted for some time. However, the actual reason behind Swift hitting the divider is not yet known. Police have started further investigation to find out the exact cause of the accident.
