Jaipur. On Sunday evening, a speeding car crushed three women cutting grass on the divider on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in the Aandhi police station area of Jaipur Rural district.
All three died in the accident. After the incident, the driver fled leaving the car about a kilometer away. Police have seized the damaged car and started searching for the driver.
Police Station Officer Rajendra Kumar said that the deceased have been identified as Prem Devi (55) wife of Ramnath resident of Khedawas, Manphool Devi (50) wife of Govardhan Lal resident of Khedawas Never and Kaushalya Devi (45) wife of Ramchandra resident of Never.
SP Jaipur Rural Hanuman Prasad Meena said that the contract for cutting grass in the mid-way of the highway is with Genthi Lal Gurjar. His son Dhara Singh Gurjar handles the work.
On Sunday morning, five women were cutting grass in the middle of the highway. Of these, two women were cutting grass inside the railing of the mid-way and three women were cutting grass outside the railing.
At around five in the evening, a speeding car ran over three women who were cutting grass outside the railing, about 20 feet away from the culvert of Booj village.
Two women died on the spot in the accident, while the third seriously injured woman was taken to the hospital, where she also died during treatment. Seeing the bodies of women in the accident, the contractor’s son Dhara Singh Gurjar also fell unconscious.
After the accident, the car driver fled from the spot with the vehicle. Police found the crashed car parked about a kilometer away from the spot. Police have seized the car and started searching for the driver.
Initially it has come to light that the risk of accident increased due to lack of adequate safety barricades during grass cutting. According to villagers, about eight people have died at this place in the last one year.
After the accident, angry villagers sat on the highway and there was a jam of about five kilometers long on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Meanwhile, BJP state president Madan Rathod, who was passing by, also got stuck in the jam. The villagers surrounded him and presented their demands.
In the talks between the administration and the villagers, it was announced to provide compensation amount as per rules, to give contract job to one member of the deceased families and one dairy booth to each family. After agreeing to the demands, the villagers opened the jam.
During this consultation, BJP state president Madan Rathod, Jamvaramgarh MLA Mahendra Pal Meena, SP Hanuman Prasad Meena, CO Ramkishan Vishnoi and police personnel from nearby police stations remained deployed on the spot.
