New Delhi. A strong performance was seen by the Indian batsmen on the first day of the match against Sri Lanka at Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo on Sunday. After winning the toss and batting first, India scored 300 runs after losing five wickets on the first day.
This test match has become historic for India's star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. As soon as he stepped on the field in this match, Jadeja made a record in his name which no Indian or Asian player had been able to do till now.
Jadeja has become the first Asian and Indian cricketer to play 50 matches in the history of the World Test Championship (WTC). The world number one Test all-rounder has achieved a special position in this tournament on the basis of his spin and bat.
How has been Jadeja's journey in WTC?
Jadeja, who made his Test debut in 2012, has consistently performed brilliantly for India in every cycle of the WTC. In his 50 matches played so far, he has scored 2675 runs and has also taken 160 wickets. During 2019-21, he played 11 matches, in which he scored 500 runs and took 29 wickets. In the second World Test Championship during the year 2021-23, he played an important role in 13 matches, scoring 721 runs and taking 47 wickets.
In 15 matches of the third cycle 2023-25, Jadeja scored 664 runs and took 55 wickets. In the current World Test Championship cycle, he has played 11 matches so far, in which he has scored more than 700 runs and taken 29 wickets.
Condition of other Indian players
After Jadeja, fast bowler Mohammad Siraj is second in terms of playing the most number of WTC matches for India. The ongoing Test in Colombo is Siraj's 47th match, in which he has 141 wickets to his name so far. Virat Kohli has played 46 matches between 2019 and 2025, in which he has scored 2617 runs.
After Kohli comes young star Shubhman Gill and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. Both have played 42-42 matches. Pant has 2885 runs in his name and Gill has 2867 runs in this tournament. Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has taken 195 wickets in 41 matches, while captain Rohit Sharma has scored 2716 runs in 40 matches.
