India opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has come under fire for his clash with Sri Lanka seamer Asitha Fernando on Day 1 of the second Test. Both players came close to each other after the opening batter made his way back towards the Lankan players.
The entire incident started after the bowler said something after claiming Jaiswal’s wicket. The southpaw has broken his silence on the controversy.
“If you don’t know what he said, then please don’t make your judgment. If anyone crosses the line, we need to let them know this India will fight and reply,” Jaiswal wrote.

For now, it is not clear what triggered the entire altercation, but it is sure to attract penalties for both players. Former players and cricket fans in general weren’t happy to see Jaiswal react angrily. The left-handed batter scored 45 runs before his eventual dismissal.

Cheteshwar Pujara was speaking about the incident on Sony Sports Network when he said that he feared the batter could face severe consequences for his actions. “Someone like Yashasvi who is hard-working and loves the game is a good character. He spends hours in the nets,” he said.
Ex-India legend also added, “It’s one of those moments where he acted aggressively after someone provoked him, and that’s something he has to learn. Sometimes, when you get into a verbal altercation with the opposition, and as a batter when you are walking back, it is important to show composure, calm attitude, and then show it with your performance, not with words or body language, because this wasn’t good.”
“Yashasvi is a good guy, and he won’t get into such things normally, but there is frustration, and he got carried away in that moment, which you need to control as a player. The visuals weren’t good, and I hope he is able to play the next Test match in New Zealand and hope he doesn’t get banned because of this. But if he does, I hope Jaiswal will learn his lesson. I hope someone from the team management will have a word with him.”
