Research on this common question of whether one should eat eggs for fatty liver or not, says this…

New Delhi:- On hearing the name of fatty liver, the first question that comes to the mind of many people is what to eat in such a situation and what things should be avoided. There has long been a belief about eggs that the cholesterol present in them can increase fat in the liver, but recent research looks at this question a little differently.

If you are struggling with fatty liver and like to eat eggs, then you should know some important things before removing it from your diet without any reason.

Can you eat eggs with fatty liver?
According to current research, eating eggs does not increase fatty liver. One study analyzed nearly six years of data from 1,414 people. Researchers did not find any direct link between egg consumption and increased fat in the liver from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Why is the choline present in eggs special?
When it comes to eggs, cholesterol comes to mind, whereas a nutrient called choline is also found in eggs, which benefits the body in many ways. A study conducted in 2024 found that high choline intake reduces the risk of NAFLD, but it is not correct to consider eggs as one of its sources.

Therefore, it would not be correct to say that egg cures fatty liver, rather egg is a nutritious food to be included in a balanced diet.

How many eggs is it okay to eat?
The answer to this question depends on factors like age, weight, physical activity, diabetes, cholesterol and overall diet. How you are eating eggs is also important. In case of fatty liver, it is more important to look at the complete diet instead of focusing only on eggs. Boiled eggs, poached eggs or omelettes made with less oil are generally better. In comparison, eggs made with too much oil, butter, cheese or processed meat can increase your total calorie and saturated fat intake, that is, along with eating eggs or not, it is also important to decide how and in what way eggs are being included in the diet.
It is not right to focus only on eggs in fatty liver.
Fatty liver does not increase or decrease by removing any one food item or adding any one thing to your diet. Depends on weight, physical activity, total calorie, sugar and carbohydrate intake and lifestyle. So if your diet includes egg, make it a part of a balanced diet. It is more effective to focus on a balanced diet with vegetables, pulses, whole grains and adequate protein.
