During Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s “Speaking the Students” event in Pune, a tribal girl grabbed everyone’s attention. She said on stage that she faces extreme inhumane treatment in the hostels. On Monday, Rahul Gandhi tweeted to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis demanding to resolve the issues of these tribal students.
Rahul Gandhi said that many tribal students in Maharashtra are on hunger strike for more than 10 days for their rights. During the “Student Echo” in Pune, students complained about inhumane provisions in hostels, such as an unnecessary age limit of 30 years, humiliating rules, unsafe facilities and pregnancy tests for women.
Students are not asking for donations, but rights… Rahul said
Rahul Gandhi said that these students, who come from far-flung villages and cities, are not asking for donations, but for their rights. They expect you to meet them personally and solve their problems immediately. During the “School Eco” program organized in Pune, students living in hostels highlighted the deplorable conditions there. It is alleged that tribal students who come from across the state to the city for education are being subjected to humiliating treatment. An unnecessary age limit of 30 years has been set for hostel admission, due to which many students have been deprived of higher education.
The agony of tribal students came to the fore on stage
Moreover, inadequate and unsafe facilities in hostels, along with extremely strict and abusive rules, students are facing mental distress in their daily life. Most seriously, the students have alleged that highly inhumane and infringing provisions on personal freedom, such as “pregnancy tests” on admission to hostels, are being imposed on female students.
