New Delhi: Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday, 24 August. During this, he congratulated Putin on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also conveyed his personal message. According to the information, apart from India-Russia relations, many important global issues were also discussed between the two.
Jaishankar reached Moscow on Sunday on a two-day visit to Russia. His meeting with Putin took place at a time when emphasis is being laid on further increasing trade and economic cooperation between India and Russia.
What topics were discussed
During the meeting, Jaishankar mentioned the increasing economic cooperation between the two countries. He said that the partnership between India and Russia is continuously strengthening in many areas including trade, energy, fertilizers, nuclear sector. He also mentioned the recently held meeting of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission and said that President Putin will be informed about the decisions and progress made in the meeting.

Jaishankar also told that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is looking forward to meeting Putin at the upcoming SCO summit. Along with this, he has also talked about welcoming the Russian President to the BRICS summit to be held in India.
Jaishankar also met Denis Manturov
After reaching Russia, Jaishankar also met Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. During this, both the leaders discussed ways to further advance trade and economic relations between India and Russia. Let us tell you, Jaishankar said that despite the changing international situation, the relations between the two countries remain strong, which he described as mutual trust and common interests as the biggest strength of this partnership.
Will also meet Lavrov
The External Affairs Ministry said in a statement on Saturday that Jaishankar will also meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during his visit to Russia. During this period, there is a possibility of talks between the two leaders on regional and global issues. Earlier in July, Jaishankar and Lavrov had met during the ASEAN-related ministerial meeting in Manila. In that meeting, both the leaders discussed India-Russia relations as well as the Ukraine war and the situation in West Asia.
