New Delhi: Iran has claimed it is prepared to withstand fresh US economic pressure, with Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh saying the country has a two-year strategy to deal with new sanctions imposed by Washington.
Speaking on state television, Madanizadeh said the United States had repeatedly attempted to test Iran's resolve but had failed to achieve its objectives. He predicted that Washington would face “another defeat” in its pressure campaign against Tehran.
Iran's response to new US sanctions
The statement came after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant announced an expansion of sanctions targeting Iran's economy. Washington has increased pressure on sectors including digital assets, technology, gold, aviation and shipping.
The US has also announced measures against several individuals, companies and vessels accused of supporting Iran's oil revenue networks, weapons procurement and cyber activities.
US threatens economic isolation
Bessent said the US would continue efforts to restrict Iran's financial channels and described the strategy as an attempt to cut off economic support for Tehran.
Washington also warned countries and companies dealing with Iran that they could face secondary sanctions. The US Treasury has expanded scrutiny of entities operating in regions including the UAE, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and parts of Europe.
The latest measures are part of a broader campaign aimed at limiting Iran's access to international financial systems.

Iranian officials have rejected the effectiveness of the new sanctions, arguing that previous US pressure campaigns have failed to weaken the country.
Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the latest financial restrictions show that Washington has not achieved its broader objectives.
