The sting of women power in India’s security system is now going to ring louder. So far we have seen male commandos in counter-terrorist operations and tough missions, but now times are changing. In a historic move, the country’s apex security agency National Security Guard (NSG) has started the first ever ‘Commando Conversion Course’ (MCCC) for women personnel of state police forces and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).
12 weeks of rigorous trainingThis special course has been started at the Training Academy of NSG at Manesar (Haryana). This is no ordinary police training, but a 12 week very tough and specialized training program. The main objective of this training is to make women soldiers not only physically strong, but also mentally and technically.
Women jawans will be given special training in this courseAdvanced Physical Ability and Fitness Training Handling of Advanced Weapons and Marksmanship Tactical Operations and Hostage Rescue Close Quarter Battle and other Counter-Terror Operational Techniques
Not just training, but a nationwide capacity building effortThe objective of this course of NSG is not limited to training only a few women. There is a big strategy behind this. A common training standard will emerge between these women personnel from police and CAPFs (such as CRPF, BSF, CISF etc.) of different states when they undergo intensive training of NSG together. This will greatly help in maintaining better interoperability between different security forces during any major operation in future. A large pool of trend women commandos will be prepared across the country.
What after training?Many people question whether these women will stay in NSG forever? The answer is no. After completing this grueling 12-week commando course, all these women jawans will return to their native police and CAPF units. While there, they will implement the new techniques, operational skills and experience learned from the NSG in their forces and inspire other personnel as well. This will strengthen the capacity to fight terrorism in every state and nook and cranny of the country.
