The Indian badminton women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand climbed 12 spots in the latest BWF World Rankings released on Tuesday to be ranked world No 27.
Treesa and Gayatri’s rise comes just days after they bagged a bronze medal at the 2026 BWF World Championships, ending India’s 15-year wait for a women’s doubles medal at the global event.
The Indian pair entered the home world championships unseeded, ranked 39th in the world. They produced two major upsets in the tournament, beating the seventh seeds Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi of Japan and fourth seeds Jia Yi Fan-Zhang Shu Xian in consecutive rounds to reach the semi-finals.
Up against the world No 1 pair of Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning of China in the semi-finals, Treesa-Gayatri went down 18-21, 21-13, 8-21 to settle for a bronze.
The bronze medal run handed them a total of 10,500 ranking points, propelling them to world No 27 in the latest rankings.
The Indian pair, who were once ranked as high as world No 9, had dropped significantly in the pecking order in recent times, thanks to injury concerns and inconsistent form.
They had dropped below world No 30 in March earlier this year, before sinking as low as world No 58 in June.
