Malaysia will close airspace around Southeast Asia’s largest airport for six days from Aug. 26 to 31 to facilitate rehearsals and the National Day Flypast 2026, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).
The temporary airspace closures are scheduled from 11 a.m. to noon on Aug. 26-28, and from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Aug. 29 and 31. The closures will coincide with rehearsals, the full rehearsal and the National Day Flypast.

“Affected passengers will be notified via their registered contact details and are encouraged to check their latest flight status on the Malaysia Airlines website or mobile app before travelling to the airport,” the national flag carrier said in a post on X.
With the school holidays and peak travel period running from Aug. 26 to Sept. 6, passengers departing from the airport’s Terminal 1 are advised to arrive at least four hours before their scheduled departure to allow enough time for airport procedures, Malay Mail reported.
Malaysia Airlines reminded passengers that check-in counters close 60 minutes before scheduled departure for both domestic and international flights, while boarding gates close 30 minutes before departure.
Passengers should also expect longer waiting times at key airport touchpoints, including check-in counters, immigration and security clearance, which could exceed 45 minutes due to the anticipated high volume of travelers.
