No matter what the war is, there will be no shortage of missiles… Approval given to transfer DRDO's technology to Indian companies

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has taken a big decision to promote self-reliance in the defense sector. He has approved transfer of technology of all conventional missile systems developed by DRDO to Indian industries. This decision will promote indigenous production of missiles in the country and increase participation of private companies in the defense sector.

Private companies will be able to produce missiles

Till now many of the developed technologies of DRDO were mainly limited to government defense institutions. Under the new initiative, eligible Indian private companies, MSMEs and other technology partners will be able to produce missile systems using these technologies.

However, companies must meet prescribed qualifications, certifications and regulatory standards before starting production. This will ensure quality and safety standards in defense production.

There will be less dependence on imports

The main objective of this decision is to strengthen India's domestic defense manufacturing capacity and reduce dependence on imports. Increasing indigenous production will save foreign exchange and will also help in maintaining the supply of weapons in case of emergency. DRDO will now accelerate large-scale production by taking the developed technologies to industry instead of being limited to missile development only.

MSME and employment will get a boost

New business opportunities will be created by increasing participation of MSMEs and small technical enterprises in the supply chain of missile manufacturing. It is also expected to promote skill development, employment and innovation in the defense sector.

Big opportunity for India's defense industry

This step is considered important towards self-reliant India and indigenous defense production. In the long run, domestic companies can not only meet the needs of the Indian Armed Forces but also develop the capability to compete in the global market. This will help in strengthening India's defense industrial base and enhancing the country's security capability.
