Stones thrown at Mumbai-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express near Surat; suspect detained

Stones were thrown at the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express (22961) near Surat on August 26, with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) promptly arresting a suspect in connection with the incident.

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel was traveling on the train at the time, although she was reportedly in a different coach from where the stones struck.

Anubhav Saxena, PRO of Vadodara Division, Western Railway, stated that the train was traveling from Mumbai to Ahmedabad and the stone-pelting occurred shortly after departing from Utran, between Utran and Kosad.

“We immediately informed the GRP SP and dispatched our Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel to the scene,” he said.

The arrested individual, identified as Pintu Kumar, is believed to be a resident of Surat and is currently being interrogated. Saxena added that the investigation is ongoing and that Kumar will be presented before a magistrate when it concludes.

Saxena clarified that while Governor Anandiben Patel was on the train, she was in the A1 coach, and the stone-pelting targeted coaches C6 and C10 further down the train.
