BCCI: Cricket is a highly popular sport in India. The BCCI organizes high-level domestic tournaments, in which almost all states participate. Now, the BCCI is about to include Andaman and Nicobar in the domestic tournaments. This is good news for Andaman and Nicobar players. Now, players from here will be able to participate in many major tournaments organized by the BCCI. The board has also proposed this. However, the final decision will be taken in a meeting.
BCCI is about to take a big decision
The BCCI’s 95th Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on September 18, 2026, at the Board office in Mumbai. The BCCI has included a proposal for associate membership for the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands at its meeting. The BCCI has also sent notices to all member associations seeking their comments.
Currently, states like Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, and Chandigarh, which are Union Territories, participate in BCCI domestic tournaments and consistently perform well. Delhi has won the Ranji Trophy several times. Delhi has also produced many legendary players for the Indian team. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir won the Ranji Trophy last year, creating history. However, the Andaman and Nicobar cricket team is still unrecognized by the BCCI. The Andaman and Nicobar Cricket Association only plays and oversees regional cricket. But now, it is about to receive a major gift from the BCCI. If Andaman and Nicobar receives membership from the BCCI, the team will play in the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Players from here will have many opportunities.
38 teams participate
Currently, a total of 38 teams participate in BCCI domestic tournaments. Several states have three teams each. Gujarat and Maharashtra each participate in BCCI domestic tournaments. In addition to Gujarat, Baroda and Saurashtra, while in Maharashtra, Mumbai and Vidarbha participate in BCCI domestic tournaments. Furthermore, the Railways and Services teams also participate in BCCI domestic tournaments. Granting membership to Andaman and Nicobar Islands will facilitate the development of cricket academies, coaching facilities, and stadiums in the region.
This will benefit local players and provide them with an opportunity to shine in domestic tournaments and bring glory to the nation. Furthermore, local players will also receive a great platform to pursue their dreams of becoming part of the Indian team. All eyes are now on the Annual General Meeting.
