Mumbai: Nora Fatehi has hit back at the criticism surrounding her song ‘Sarke Chunar’, claiming that some influencers were paid to amplify the backlash against the track.
The actress-dancer also claimed that she knows who was behind the alleged campaign.
The Hindi version of ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’, featured in ‘KD – The Devil’, sparked controversy over its lyrics and visuals.
The backlash eventually led to Nora appearing before the National Commission for Women (NCW) for a hearing on May 7.
Addressing the controversy on the ‘Dream with Dr Sheen’ podcast, Nora said the backlash did not come as a surprise to her.
She alleged that the online criticism was deliberately amplified, claiming that certain influencers were paid to escalate the controversy.
“I already know who hired you, when, and how much they paid you. That was an opportunity well squeezed by whoever was behind that,” Nora said.
She further clarified that she had not approved the Hindi adaptation of the song.
Nora revealed that she had originally filmed the track in Kannada nearly three years ago, at a time when she did not understand the language.
“Whatever they have done right now, dubbing it in Hindi and the lyrics, they did not take any permission or approval from me. I had no idea about it. I told the director that this was not okay, and I dissociated myself from the project. I did not promote it anywhere. I told the director my image and reputation are on the line,” she explained.
The song was eventually taken down after the controversy intensified.
Recalling the episode, Nora said the backlash erupted while she was busy with a three-day shoot, leaving her unaware of how quickly the situation was escalating.
She said she remained composed throughout the episode and was neither panicked nor afraid as the controversy unfolded while she was away filming.
