Islamabad. On Wednesday, 15 newborn babies died in a fire in the gynecology ward of a major hospital in Pakistan's capital Islamabad. The fire broke out in the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), the capital's largest and best-equipped government hospital.
'Geo News' reported in its news that 15 children died in the fire incident. However, the number of dead has not yet been officially confirmed. PIMS spokesperson Dr. Aneeza Jalil told 'Dawn' newspaper that 15 newborn babies were present in the ward where the fire broke out. He said, some babies may have been discharged from the hospital in the night itself, so it is not possible to tell the exact number of dead.
When asked about the cause of the incident, he said that initially it appears that the fire broke out due to short circuit. He told that the fire broke out at around seven in the morning. He said that the flames have been brought under control, but the process of completely cooling the ward will take some time.
