Business Desk – 8th Pay Commission Latest Update: These days, the eyes of central employees and pensioners are fixed on the meetings of the 8th Pay Commission. The Commission has started the second phase of meetings. After the initial meetings in Delhi, now the members of the Commission are going to different states and union territories to know the demands and suggestions from the employees and pensioners organizations. The commission will prepare its report on the basis of these suggestions.
Next phase will start from Jaipur, meetings will be held in many cities
The next meeting of the Eighth Pay Commission will be held on 31 August and 1 September 2026 in Jaipur. After this the Commission will reach Chennai on 7th and 8th September. After Chennai, a meeting is proposed in Puducherry on 9 September. After this, a meeting will be held in Chandigarh on 16 and 18 September. The meeting is scheduled for October 7 and 8 in Bengaluru. The meeting is also likely to be held in Mumbai during September or October, but its official date has not been announced yet.
Why is commission being received from employees and pensioners?
The Commission is directly understanding the demands of different employee and pensioners organizations through these meetings. Employees can give suggestions related to their Salary, Allowances, Pay Structure and Service Conditions, while pensioners and related issues can be put forward on behalf of pensioners. The Commission will take these inputs into consideration while formulating its recommendations.
The demands of railway employees will also be monitored
Issues related to Railway Employees can also be important in the meetings of the Eighth Pay Commission. For this, meetings are expected to be held with various departments of the Central Railway Zone in Mumbai. Due to the large number of railway employees, their salary and service related demands can also be an important input before the Commission.
Earlier the meetings were expected to be completed by August.
It has been more than 9 months since the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission. Earlier it was believed that by August 2026, the Commission would visit all the states and union territories and complete the consultations. After this the focus will be on Fitment Factor, Basic Pay and other salary components. But now with the schedule of meetings coming out till October, it is clear that the consultation process will continue.
When will the 8th Pay Commission report come?
It has already been told by the Central Government that the Eighth Pay Commission can submit its report by May 3, 2027. It is not mandatory for the Commission to give regular updates to the Government on the progress of its work before this. However, if the Commission completes its work before the scheduled time, the report can be submitted even before May 3, 2027.
How much will be the salary hike, not decided yet
The biggest question of the employees is that how much will the basic pay increase and what will be the fitment factor? At present no final figure has been decided. Many aspects like demands of employees and pensioners, economic conditions and salary structure will be considered in the meetings of the Commission.
After this the commission will give its recommendations to the government. The final decision will be taken by the Central Government on the basis of report and recommendations. Therefore, the most important thing for the employees at the moment is that the meetings are going on, but the final decision on Salary Hike or Fitment Factor is still pending.
