New Delhi. Lakhs of central government employees and pensioners are eagerly waiting for the 8th Pay Commission. There is a continuous discussion going on about how much change there will be in basic salary, fitment factor and pension in the new salary structure. As the commission process progressed, the expectations of the employees have also increased. Let us know five important updates related to this.
1. The commission process is continuously progressing.
The government has given stipulated time to the 8th Pay Commission to prepare its recommendations. During this period, the Commission is collecting suggestions from different departments, employee organizations and other concerned parties. Data and current circumstances are also being studied for changes in the pay structure.
2. Expected to be implemented from January 1, 2026
January 1, 2026 is being considered as the effective date for the 8th Pay Commission. If the government later approves and implements the recommendations and the effective date remains the same, employees may receive potential arrears for the intervening period. However the actual payment and implementation date will depend on the final decision of the government.
3. Most attention is paid to the fitment factor
Fitment factor plays an important role in increasing the salary of employees. In the 7th Pay Commission it was 2.57. This time the employee organizations are demanding a much higher fitment factor. However, what will be the final figure, it will be clear only after the recommendation of the 8th Pay Commission and the approval of the Central Government.
4. Expectation of increase in minimum basic
In the present system the minimum basic pay is Rs 18,000. There may be a significant increase based on the new fitment factor. Many estimates are being made regarding the minimum salary according to different possible factors, but no definite new basic salary has been officially announced yet.
5. Employees and pensioners are also giving suggestions
The Pay Commission is also giving importance to the suggestions of employee organizations and parties related to pensioners. Issues related to salaries, allowances and service conditions are being put forward through memorandums received from different departments and services. This will help in incorporating the views of the concerned parties in formulating the new pay structure.
What are the employees waiting for?
The biggest expectation from the 8th Pay Commission is increase in basic salary and pension. However, the final picture regarding fitment factor, new salary and arrears has not been revealed yet.
