Tezzbuzz Desk- After the devastating floods on the Nepal-China border, concern about Indian citizens has increased. The Foreign Ministry said that 288 Indian citizens cannot be contacted at presentwhile close 200 Indians have sought help in Tibet region of China. So far 21 Indian citizens have been rescued safely. The Government of India is in constant touch with the Nepalese authorities and is cooperating in the relief and rescue operations.
Unable to contact 288 Indians
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Thursday informed about the situation of Indian citizens after the floods in Nepal. He said India is in touch with the Nepalese administration to trace the affected people. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to the Prime Minister of Nepal and expressed condolences on the disaster and offered all possible humanitarian assistance from India.
According to MEA, the 288 uncontacted Indians include people from different groups. in these 73 people working on Trishuli-1 power projectincluding 37 people from Tamil Nadu and two other groups of 49 people.
People of many states affected
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, a group of 32 citizens of West Bengal are also uncontactable. Apart from this, a group of 61 Indians from different states and 33 citizens of Kerala have also not been able to be contacted. These people had reached Nepal through different travel agencies.
At the same time, information has come to light that people associated with Isha Foundation have also been affected. Due to floods, it is becoming difficult to contact people due to disruption of mobile networks, roads and communication systems in many areas.
21 Indians were rescued
The Ministry of External Affairs said that so far 21 Indian citizens have been evacuated safely. Apart from this, about 200 Indian citizens have sought help in the Chinese side of the border i.e. Tibet. The Government of India is also in touch with the concerned authorities regarding the situation of the Indians present there.
Relief material has also been sent from India to the flood affected areas of Nepal. Relief and rescue operations are continuing.
Death toll increased in Nepal
Meanwhile, the death toll due to severe floods in Nepal has increased. 270 It has been told. According to Nepal Police, 93 more bodies were recovered from different districts after the flood, after which the death toll increased. More than 800 people have been evacuated safely from the affected areas.
According to police, many districts including Chitwan, Nawalparasi East, Dhading, Gorkha, Rasuwa, Nawalparasi West and Nuwakot have been badly affected.
Sudden flood came after landslide
According to initial information, the flow of Lhende river, a tributary of Bhotekoshi river, was disrupted due to the landslide. After the water accumulated, suddenly the flood came downstream with a strong flow. Its effect was first seen in Timure area of Rasuwagadhi near the China border. After this, water and debris caused huge destruction in many areas.
Nepal's Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has also said that about 300 Indian tourists are included among the missing. At present, the priority of relief agencies is to search for missing people and rescue stranded civilians.
