Tezzbuzz Desk – The performance of the last few films of YRF Spy Universe was not as per expectations. In this series, Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh's 'Alpha', released this year, also did not do well at the box office. Despite the big budget and star cast, the film's earnings were slow. However, for those viewers who did not see it in theatres, they are now going to get a chance to watch it at home.
'Alpha' will stream on Netflix from August 28. Netflix shared the poster of the film on its official Instagram account and informed about its OTT release. The film was released in theaters on July 3 and is now going to hit the OTT platform after about two months.
How was the performance at the box office?
Alia Bhatt's 'Alpha' did a worldwide business of around Rs 99.10 crore. The net collection of the film in India was around Rs 58.86 crore, while the gross collection was said to be around Rs 70 crore. The film had earned around Rs 9 crore in India on its opening day.
The estimated budget of the film was said to be between Rs 100 to 150 crores. In such a situation, the box office collection was not as per the expectations and the film had to suffer a big loss.
What is the story of 'Alpha'?
'Alpha', directed by Shiv Rawail, is the first female spy film of the YRF spy universe. In this, Alia Bhatt has played the role of a RAW agent named Sita, while Sharvari Wagh has been seen in the role of Durga Kaul. Both are shown as sisters in the film.
Anil Kapoor has played the role of their father in the film, while Bobby Deol has been seen in the role of a dreaded villain. In the story, Alia and Sharvari come face to face with Bobby Deol's character and both take charge against him.
Now after the OTT release of the film, the makers and artists hope that 'Alpha' will get a better response from the audience on digital platforms than in theatres. After streaming on Netflix from August 28, it will be interesting to see how much the film changes its fortunes on OTT.
