Kannada superstar Yash's much-awaited film 'Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-ups' has taken a good start at the box office after its release. This action-thriller directed by Geetu Mohandas crossed the Rs 100 crore mark on the very first day. The special thing is that the film has received mixed response from critics and audiences. Many viewers expressed disappointment with the story, screenplay and direction. But this did not affect the film's earnings.
According to initial information received from Saknilk, 'Toxic' made a net collection of Rs 101.10 crore on the first day. The film got the highest profit from the Hindi belt, where it earned Rs 55 crore. It did business of Rs 23.30 crore in Kannada, Rs 16 crore in Telugu, Rs 5.50 crore in Tamil and Rs 1.30 crore in Malayalam. The film earned Rs 120.75 crore from 24,579 shows on its first day, while its worldwide collection is reported to be Rs 140.75 crore.
With this stellar opening, 'Toxic' has left behind the first day collections of films like 'Pathan' (57 crores), 'Jawaan' (75 crores), 'Pashu' (63.80 crores) and 'Kalki 2898 AD' (95.30 crores). However, Yash missed breaking the opening record of Rs 116 crore made by his own film 'KGF Chapter 2'. At the same time, this film lagged behind the record of Rs 102.55 crore made by Ranveer Singh's 'Dhurandhar 2' by a small margin. Along with Yash, the film also stars Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth in important roles.
