Rajasthan News: New Delhi. Supreme Court Justice Sandeep Mehta has requested Chief Justice Surya Kant to appoint a person from outside the state as the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court with immediate effect. Justice Mehta alleged that serious administrative irregularities took place during the tenure of Acting Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court Sanjeev Prakash Sharma. Biased approach was adopted in listing of cases. Justice Mehta, in three letters written to the CJI on August 2, 10 and 17, has accused the Acting Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court of mismanagement, adopting wrong methods, nepotism and bias. He alleged that Justice Sharma misused his powers as Master of Roster. Transferred selected cases to his bench. These also included cases related to influential and rich litigants. According to the letters, the CJI has assured Justice Mehta of appropriate action in the matter.
Allegations should be investigated as per rules: CJI
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Wednesday said that senior judges of the Supreme Court Collegium have taken seriously the concerns raised by Justice Sanjip Mehta. However, he said that allegations against a sitting judge should be investigated and action taken only as per the prescribed institutional procedure.
