Why did Sehwag and Dravid's son get a place in the team?

Aryavir Sehwag has got a place in the India U19 team for the first time. Aryaveer, son of great Indian cricket batsman Virender Sehwag, has been selected in the team for the three-match ODI series against Australia in Rajkot in September. Right-handed batsman Aryaveer was seen playing for West Delhi Lions in the recently released Delhi Premier League 2026, where his aggressive style and big shots reminded him of father Virender Sehwag. However, this identity is not new for Aryaveer.

He made headlines by playing a stormy innings of 297 runs against Meghalaya during the Cooch Behar Trophy in 2024. Now after his performance in domestic cricket, the door of India's Under-19 team has opened for him for the first time.

Wicketkeeper Anvay Dravid has also got a place in the ODI team. He played a brilliant inning of 87 runs during India U19's tour of Sri Lanka in July and has retained his place in the team after this. However, both Aryavir Sehwag and Anvay Dravid have not found a place in the U19 team selected for the two multi-day matches. That means both the young players will be seen only in ODI matches against Australia.
