The release of Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups was followed by a flood of memes online, with viewers turning their reactions to the Yash-starrer into jokes and viral posts.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film had arrived in theatres on Wednesday and had received mixed responses from audiences and critics. Soon after its release, social media users began sharing memes about the film, its reported clash with Dhurandhar: The Revenge and their experience inside theatres.
One of the memes focused on the two films. It showed Yash walking on a road before appearing to hide after noticing Ranveer Singh. The post referred to the changed release situation between Toxic and Dhurandhar 2 and quickly became part of the online conversation.
Another meme showed a person leaving a theatre while Phir Se from Dhurandhar 2 played in the background. The post used the line, “Balidan Paramon Dharam,” to turn the situation into a joke.
Several other posts focused directly on the audience’s reaction to Toxic. One meme referred to an earlier comment by Yash, in which he had imagined what people might say after leaving the theatre. The quote read, “Bro, what the hell was that?”
The same meme showed a person rushing towards a theatre exit while trying to get away. Another post showed people moving quickly down an escalator, with the caption describing them as the “Audience escaping home after watching #Toxic.”
Social media users also shared memes showing confusion and frustration after watching the film. One post described the reaction as the result of entering the theatre with high expectations and leaving with questions about what they had watched.
Another meme used a popular Telugu film scene to show a shocked viewer asking for the screening to stop. The post said the reaction had come after watching Toxic on its first day and first show without sleep.
A separate meme used a scene featuring actor Karthi to present another exaggerated reaction from a viewer. The post had connected the dialogue from the scene with the experience of watching the film.
Toxic featured Yash alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth. The film had been released in Hindi and the South Indian languages.
The film had also recorded a reported worldwide opening of ₹140 crore, while discussion around its theatrical release continued across social media.
