Cover Up 2 pushed contestants to reveal deeply personal secrets to stay in the game, but for Akanksha Chamola, her revelations about her marriage to Gaurav Khanna made headlines, becoming one of this season’s major talking point after she revealed that they were getting divorced.
While her divorce revelation grabbed attention, Akanksha’s later remarks about Gaurav also came under fire online, especially her comment that she would rather have had her parents or even her dog visit her on the show.
After facing criticism online, the 35-year-old has broken her silence, calling out the trolls and their “selective moral policing.”
In chat with Zoomshe clarified what she meant by the comment on the show, explaining, “At that point, I was getting divorced from Gaurav, so I didn’t want the person you are separating from to come and support.”
“Because you don’t know, right, in what way they have come,” she admitted. “And vo apna naam clear karne ke liye vaha pe aaye the (He came to clear his name).”
Continuing, “He was not there to support me because he didn’t give me any information for me to feel that ‘Oh, I am doing really well with the game’. No, that was not the thing that had happened.”
Akanksha hit back at the criticism by questioning why her remarks about Gaurav became the focus when she had also mentioned her parents and dog.
The Lid Up season 2 contestant argued that people were picking apart only the part of her statement that involved her husband.
“Don’t moral-police everything so much. And if you are going to do it, then do it for everything. Don’t do it selectively,” she stated. “Then applaud the fact that she is getting divorced from Gaurav, but she has placed him on the same level as her parents. Don’t get offended only on Gaurav Khanna’s name. Don’t be picky.”
Continuing, “You want to morally police me, do that. Accepted. But don’t get selective. That’s what I am saying. I am ready to apologise if I am wrong, but prove it to me that I am wrong.”
