Tezzbuzz Desk– For riders who like sports bikes, Yamaha has launched its new YZF-R2 in the Indian market. The company has launched it in the 200cc super sports segment. The starting ex-showroom price of the bike is Rs 2,30,500. Yamaha has introduced R2 in three variants, which have different features and prices. The base variant of Yamaha YZF-R2 is priced at Rs 2,30,500. It can be purchased in Metallic Black and Dark Bluish Gray colors. After this the second variant of R2 comes for Rs 2,39,500. It has a bidirectional quickshifter and is available in Matte White Pearl and Racing Blue color options.
The most expensive is the R2 M variant, which has been priced at Rs 2,53,000. It gets premium features like adjustable suspension and lever with quickshifter, faux-suede seat and 3D embossed emblem. All these prices are ex-showroom prices of Delhi.
Talking about design, the sporty glimpse of the company's R-Series is clearly visible in Yamaha R2. The design of the bike is inspired by the R15 V4. It has sharp fairing, compact body and aggressive riding position. Projector LED headlights with LED DRLs are available at the front. At the rear, there is a block-style LED taillight, whose design is said to be inspired by the YZF-R1. For performance, the bike has a new 204cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC 4-valve single-cylinder engine. This engine generates maximum power of 26.5 PS and torque of 19.1 Nm. It comes with 6-speed gearbox and assist and slipper clutch.
Ride-by-Wire technology and Yamaha Ride Control are also provided in Yamaha R2. It has three riding modes like Street, Sport and Rain. In comparison, the engine of KTM RC 200 generates power of 25 PS and torque of 19.2 Nm. In such a situation, R2 seems to be slightly ahead in terms of power. Like R15, a new steel tube diamond frame has been used in the bike instead of Deltabox frame. For suspension, inverted telescopic front fork and monoshock have been provided at the rear. Disc brakes are available on both sides with 17-inch wheels. Dual-channel ABS and traction control are also included as standard features. The curb weight of the bike is 149kg.
Talking about the features, R2 has a 5-inch TFT display, which supports smartphone connectivity and navigation. Smart Key System is also available in R2 M variant. On the other hand, the R2 M variant has a bidirectional quickshifter, with the help of which gears can be changed up and down without pressing the clutch. In the Indian market, Yamaha R2 will compete with bikes like KTM RC 200, Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 and Hero Karizma XMR. Due to sporty design, light weight, powerful engine and modern electronic features, R2 can become a new option for riders in this segment.
