Kharagpur Government Railway Police has arrested a youth from Bardhaman who was returning home by train after stealing gold from a gold shop in Kerala. The youth has been identified as Sheikh Sameer. About 150 grams of gold has been recovered from him.
According to Railway Police sources, Sameer worked as an artisan in a gold shop in Kerala. It is alleged that after stealing gold from the shop, he left for his home by train.
On receiving information about the incident, the police of Nallalam police station in Kerala had alerted various railway stations and sent information. Based on this information, the Government Railway Police launched an operation at Kharagpur station on Thursday morning.
During search in 22503 Kanyakumari-Dibrugarh Express, police detained Sameer under suspicious circumstances. During the search, about 150 grams of gold was recovered from him. He was arrested after preliminary interrogation.
On receiving information about the incident, a team of Kerala Police reached Kharagpur station late on Thursday evening. Confirming the incident on Thursday night, senior police officer of Kharagpur Government Railway Police, Jayant Mukherjee said that as per the rules, the arrested youth will be handed over to Kerala Police. After this, he will be taken to Kerala and further legal action will be taken in the theft case.
