Amidst the continuously increasing and scorching heat in Tamil Nadu, there has been news full of both relief and caution for the general public. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a strong possibility of rain and thundershowers in many parts of the state during the next four days. Chennai-based Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) has given a new forecast of moderate rain at one or two places in the districts adjacent to the Western Ghats. During this period, strong surface winds can also blow at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour.
System formed in coastal areas, there will be rain in these districts
According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials, a weak low pressure trough is forming in the lower atmospheric levels over the coastal areas of the state. Due to its effect, light to moderate rain can be recorded in many parts of the state.
There is a strong possibility of rain in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Sivagangai and Ramanathapuram districts. Apart from this, the districts of Delta region as well as Union Territories of Puducherry and Karaikal may also see light rain during the day. However, there is no possibility of widespread rainfall in the entire state, but sporadic rain at the local level will definitely provide temporary relief to the people from the humidity and scorching heat.
Stormy winds will blow at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour
According to IMD, moderate rain is expected at one or two places in the districts along the Western Ghats till August 31. During thunderstorms the speed of surface winds can reach up to 50 kilometers per hour. The Meteorological Department has advised the general public to take special precautions during lightning and thunder. People have been asked to avoid stopping in open fields, near big trees and weak structures or hoardings.
However, despite the possibility of rain, the effect of heat is not expected to end completely in the state. During the next four days, the maximum temperature in Tamil Nadu may remain above normal by about three degrees Celsius. In such a situation, in areas where there is no rain, hot and uncomfortable weather will continue to trouble people.
Special alert issued for fishermen
Meanwhile, a separate major warning has been issued for fishermen venturing into the sea near the coastal areas of southern Tamil Nadu. There is a possibility of strong winds with storm speed up to 65 kilometers per hour in the maritime areas till August 31.
The Meteorological Department has given clear instructions to fishermen not to venture into the coastal waters of southern Tamil Nadu, the Gulf of Mannar and the surrounding Comorin Sea. Fishermen already present in the sea have been asked to be immediately alert and follow the latest bulletin of the Meteorological Department to return safely. Authorities have advised coastal communities to moor their boats and other equipment to safe places due to the threat of strong winds. The Meteorological Department says that changes in the atmospheric system are possible, so people should keep an eye on the latest forecast.
