Amidst the massive devastation caused by the breaking of the glacier in the Himalayan country Nepal, the danger of another major flood is looming. China has issued a very serious warning to the Nepalese government, warning that a temporary natural lake formed by accumulation of debris in the upper area of the Lhende River could collapse at any time. According to Chinese officials, the color of the lake's water is rapidly turning pitch black, which is a clear indication of its potential to burst at any moment and cause massive devastation in the low-lying areas.
24 hour surveillance is being done through drones and satellites
In an emergency message sent to the Foreign Ministry of Nepal, China has advised to immediately alert the people living in the border and low-lying areas. This lake is formed by blockage of rocks and debris at the confluence of the Chochen River on the China side and the Purepu River on the Nepal side. According to the Chinese monitoring team, by Friday the lake had been filled with about 25 lakh cubic meters of water.
The water of the lake has now started overflowing into the Lhende Khola and Trishuli rivers. Although at present it is said to be under control, but considering the sensitivity of the situation, Chinese officials are continuously monitoring the entire affected area through satellite and drones.
Death toll reaches 579, 320 Indians missing
According to information shared by Nepal Police after the disaster, 579 bodies have been recovered so far from eight different districts of the country, while thousands of people are still missing under the debris and flood waters. The maximum devastation has occurred in Chitwan district, from where 233 bodies have been found. Apart from this, bodies of 154 people have been removed from Nawalparasi East, 46 from Gorkha and 40 from Dhading. At the same time, five people have been confirmed dead in Gyirong County of Tibet Autonomous Region.
According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, at least 320 Indian citizens are still missing after this horrific tragedy. Around 400 other Indians were stranded in Chinese territory, out of which 96 citizens have safely entered the Nepal border by road. Apart from this, 63 Indian laborers working in Trishuli-Van Hydroelectric Project have also been rescued safely.
India sent 57.5 tons of relief material and medical team
To deal with this serious humanitarian crisis arising in the neighboring country, India has started large-scale relief and rescue operations. A total of 57.5 tonnes of emergency relief material has so far been delivered to Nepal through three special military transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force.
Along with relief material, the Government of India has also deployed an expert team of 11 doctors and paramedical staff at the spot. Apart from this, a special rescue team has also been sent to Kathmandu to rescue the people trapped in the debris or tunnels, which is taking stock of the rescue operations along with the local administration.
