Technology Desk: Using Apple Maps is now going to be easier than ever for iPhone users in India. Apple has started rolling out the Transit feature of its Maps app in India without any official announcement. With the help of this feature, users will now be able to see information related to public transport like bus, metro and train directly on Apple Maps.
Till now, information about public transport on Apple Maps in India was limited. For this, users had to use Google Maps or other apps. After the new update, information about public transport routes, timings and available services will be available in Apple Maps itself.
Transit feature confirmed in India
MacRumors contributing researcher Aaron Paris first reported the availability of the Apple Maps Transit feature in India on social media platform X. After this, Gadgets 360 has also confirmed the rollout of this feature in India.
However, Apple has not yet officially announced the launch of the Transit feature in India. Currently, India's name is not visible on the company's website in the list of countries and regions where the Transit feature is available.
What will be available in Apple Maps Transit?
Bus, train and metro routes
Through the Transit feature, users will be able to view information about their travel by public transport. In this, information about departure and arrival time along with routes of bus, train and metro can be found.
Connecting routes and fare information
Routes created by combining different public transport types during a journey can also be seen on Apple Maps. Fare information can also be shown in supported transport systems.
Live timing and location
Apple Maps can show live bus and train locations for some supported transportation services. If there is a delay or any other problem in any service, then users can also get information about it.
stop alert
While traveling, Apple Maps can alert users when they approach their alighting stop or station. This can help passengers avoid missing their station or stop.
Transit Nearby feature
With the help of Transit Nearby, users will be able to see information about bus stops, stations and public transport services available from there. With this, nearby departure timings can also be checked.
You can pin your favorite route
Users can pin their daily transit routes to Apple Maps. This will allow frequently used routes to be easily accessed.
A separate Transit Map mode is also provided in Apple Maps. In this, the major bus and metro routes of a city can be seen differently on the map.
Ticket payment option is also available
Apple Maps Transit also supports ticket or transit payments for some countries and select transportation systems. In this, payment can be made through Apple Pay, Transit Card or the app of the concerned transport company.
However, there is no official information yet whether the ticket payment facility will be available with Apple Maps Transit in India or not.
Changes were also found in Apple Maps in iOS 27
Earlier, Apple had made many changes in Apple Maps with iOS 27 update. These also included improvements in the Flyover feature. Through this, 3D view of some cities can be seen with the help of aerial imagery and AI.
