Bank branches will remain closed at some places between 31 August and 6 September 2026. However, these holidays will not be applicable in every state and city.
This week, banks will remain closed in many cities on the occasion of Janmashtami on 4th September. Apart from this, due to 6th September being Sunday, there will be a general weekly holiday for bank branches across the country.
Banks closed in these cities on 4th September
Bank branches will remain closed in many cities on Friday, September 4, on the occasion of Janmashtami. These include Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada. Therefore, if you have any important work related to the bank, then definitely check the holidays according to your city.
Banks will open on 5th September
Banks will remain open on the first Saturday of September i.e. 5th September. Actually, banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturday of every month. In such a situation, work normally continues in bank branches on the first Saturday.
Nationwide holiday on 6th September
There will be a weekly holiday for banks on Sunday, September 6. Bank branches across the country will remain closed on this day. In such a situation, those who want to get work done by going to the bank branch should make their plans accordingly.
Online banking services will not be affected
Despite the closure of bank branches, most digital banking facilities will remain available. Customers can do many important things through UPI, ATM, Internet Banking and Mobile Banking. Tasks like transferring money, checking account balance, bill payment and other digital transactions can be done online. However, for services that require visiting the branch, you may have to wait for the bank opening day.
The trend of bank holidays will continue next week also. Bank branches may remain closed for three days at some places between 7 and 13 September 2026. Banks will remain closed in Jaipur city on September 11 due to elections in Jaipur Municipal Corporation area. Due to September 12 being the second Saturday, there will be a holiday for bank branches across the country. After this, banks will remain closed on Sunday, 13th September also. Therefore, before going to the bank, definitely check the holidays of your city, so that you do not have to face trouble for important work.
