Manchester United secured a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford on Sunday, marking a strong response after their opening defeat against Hull City. Bruno Fernandes led the comeback with a hat-trick in the Premier League match.
Despite Leif Davis giving Ipswich an early lead in the 29th minute, Manchester United rallied before halftime. In the 40th minute, following a slip by Marcelino Nunez, Matheus Cunha and Fernandes launched a two-on-one attack, with Fernandes scoring to level the match.
The hosts took the lead in the 56th minute when Harry Maguire’s shot deflected off Jacob Greaves for an own goal. Four minutes later, Greaves fouled Cunha, who earned a penalty. Fernandes converted the spot-kick in the 61st minute, advancing Manchester United to 3–1.
Fernandes completed his hat-trick in the 68th minute after capitalizing on a deflected clearance. The scoring continued in the 83rd minute as Fernandes assisted Bryan Mbeumo, who lifted the ball over goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen to make it 5–1.
Chuba Akpom scored a consolation goal for Ipswich in stoppage time, but Manchester United retained full points with this commanding win.
