Indian batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became the youngest batter to score a fifty in the history of the Duleep Trophy. The southpaw achieved the feat during the East Zone vs Central Zone semi-final on Monday. Sooryavanshi hit Saransh Jain for a massive six to reach his fifty off just 42 balls.
Vaibhav amassed his fifty at the age of 15 years and 157 days. Before this, Laxman Singh had scored his fifty at the age of 16 years and 23 days in 1969. Former India player Piyush Chawla, who reached his half-century at the age of 16 years and 307 days, is third on the list.
sooryavanshi hit Yash Thakur for four boundaries and a six to reach 26 runs from just 19 balls. He then deposited Thakur for a boundary and a six in the 11th over to reach 40 runs. The fifty came with a four followed by a massive six over deep mid-wicket region.
Sooryavanshi started taking on the bowlers after reaching his fifty. Saransh, who was part of the Indian team for the two-Test series against Sri Lanka, went for plenty of runs. Vaibhav’s knock ended when he went for a slog sweep over mid-wicket and was caught on the boundary by Arshad Khan. The youngster accumulated 92 runs from 81 balls with seven boundaries and seven sixes.

If the Bihar-based cricketer had managed to score a century, he would have become the youngest to reach the mark. Former India batter Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for the youngest batter to score a hundred in the Duleep Trophy at the age of 17 years and 262 days. Sachin got to the mark while playing for West Zone against East Zone in 1991.
South Zone rocked by Gurnoor Brar’sspell
The second semi-final between North Zone and South Zone is being played in Bengaluru. The North Zone was bowled out for 195 in their first innings. Vidwath Kaverappa took four wickets. South Zone were 113 for 5 in their reply. Gurnoor Brar claimed four wickets.
